Guiding Light {Scrapy Land #42}

This is my first of two posts for today.  Please hit the Home tab for the Celebrations Blog Hop.

It's the third Wednesday of the month and time for a new Scrapy Land Challenge.  The theme is Lots of Layers, plus use any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.

Today's card uses the following dies:

Die-Versions: Lighthouse
Die-Versions: Life Preserver Border
Spellbinders: Grand Squares
Elizabeth Craft Designs: Stitched Rectangles

My nautical themed card has quite a few layers, plus I added even more dimension by curving the Life Preserver border (which was colored with Copics) at the bottom and only gluing the ends down.

The sentiment is part of the new Just Go Fishing stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle and as soon as I saw it, I knew it would pair perfectly with the Die-Versions Lighthouse.  To start out, I sprinkled on some Nuance powder pigment  (Violet, Turquoise, Royal Blue, Cerulean Blue) onto the cardstock and spritzed it with water.  Once this was throughly dry, I stamped the sentiment with Black Soot Distress Ink and heat embossed it with Clear Detail embossing powder.

For the lighthouse, I kept some of the negative pieces and colored them with Copic markers.  After adding the negative pieces back into the die (and securing them on the back with tape), I covered the entire die cut piece with VersaMark and heat embossed it with Sparkle embossing powder.

I die cut the Lattice 1 die twice and added more Nuance pigment powders to both pieces.  Some cheese cloth and a couple more mats later, my card is completed.  Even though it has a number of layers, it's not too bulky and could easily be mailed in a square envelope.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the team has created for you.  You'll have until May 29th to upload your Lots of Layers projects onto the Scrapy Land Challenge.  The winner, chosen by the Design Team, will receive a $15 gift certificate to go shopping at Scrapy Land.

Great nautical card with so many layers, Anne! I love what you did with the lighthouse and that lattice backdrop is now on my wishlist! I can see so many possibilities, but it is the perfect layer to place beneath your sentiment and lighthouse. Love that sentiment, too! Hugs!

I always look forward to the new posts to see what you gals come up with. It is always so inspirational. Love the layers on your card. The cheese cloth adds so much texture and that die is perfect on top of it along with that cute border. The sentiment and the light house are perfect.
