Winter Adventure {Scrapy Land # 57}

Happy 2017!

It's the first Wednesday of the year and time for a new Scrapy Land Challenge!  The theme is Anything Goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.  (Check out the Products page to see ALL the brands.  There are over 55 sub-categories!)

For my wintery card, I used the following dies:

Impression Obsession: Penguin and Igloo
Elizabeth Craft Designs: Stitched Squares
Elizabeth Crafts Designs: 4 Seasons
Kaiser Crafts: Travel Word Pack
Die-Versions: Tide Pool font
Die-Versions: Cold Weather Wee Petites (retired, but here are some other choices for mittens and mugs)

To start out, I die cut the igloo twice so that I could fussy cut the entrance and adhere it on top of the main die cut.  Then I covered the entire thing with Versamark and heat set it with White Spark embossing powder from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  Since the ice blocks didn't show up as well once it was embossed, I re-drew the lines with a Copic marker.

The penguin was die cut from white cardstock and then the individual pieces were colored with Copics.  Instead of using the tiny die cuts for the eyes, I used Nuvo Crystal Drops (White, Ebony Black).  Did you know you could create multi-colored drops with these?  Just add the second color while the main color is still wet.  The second drop sort of melts into the first one.  The photo on the right shows you the wonderful dimension that was achieved using this technique.

You'll also notice that I die cut his beak several times (again, for more dimension).  When the pieces are small, it's easier for me to cut them multiple times and glue the pieces together rather than trying to add a small bit of dimensional tape on the back.

I added Waterscape glitter to the steam coming off the mug as well as creating a monogramed mug using the Tide Pool font.  Snow White flock was added to the "fur" on the mittens as well as the ear muffs for a more realistic look.  All the Cold Weather dies were originally die cut from white cardstock and then colored with Copics.

Below is a darker photo so that you can see the "Winter" die cut better.  You can still see the sparkle on the igloo and the dimension that the second layer for the entrance makes.

You have until January 15th to join in on the fun at the Scrapy Land Challenge.  The winner, chosen by the Design Team, will receive a $15 gift certificate to go shopping at Scrapy Land.  (What a great way to get yourself some of those "I need, I need!" dies that Santa didn't bring you for Christmas.)
