Capt. Walen

Can't believe another month has just flown by.  But that means it's time for the Dude Time Doodles New Release Blog Hop!  There are some great new images this month and I'm sure you'll find one or two (or all) that you've just got to have.  All the images will be available at the store by 10am EST.

I've chosen Captain Walen and he was a dream to color.  I created a bookmark for my father-in-law as he loves to read.  (Too bad I didn't have a copy of Moby Dick laying around :-).)  He's colored with Copic markers, fussy cut, and his boots have been given a good coating of Glossy Accents to keep them waterproof.  The background was created using the Marbling Stains technique from the Tim Holtz Creative Chemistry online class (I think you can still register for it, if interested) and some rubber stamps from Blockheads Paper Arts and Stampers' Anonymous.  Creative Inspiration paints (pink highlights) was painted on the fish for an iridescent look (although it's hard to tell in the photo).

You should have arrived here at Anne-Made from the Dude Time Doodles challenge blog, but don't stress if you didn't.  The Dude Time Doodles blog hop is a circular hop - no beginning or end.  Just keep going until you have visited all of the Dude and Dudettes.  Be sure to leave a comment with each one of us as one of the design team members is the Mystery Host/Hostess and the winner will be chosen from that person's comments.  Now it's time to head on over to Michelle.  Here's a quick list of all the stops.

Art Glitter Design Team 2012 Audition

(Please scroll down for today's Digi Makeover Challenge post)

For those of you that have been following my blog, you know I love trying new things.  That's exactly what I did for this card.  I made a dimensional flower using acetate and glitter.  The first thing you need to do is stamp your image onto the acetate with a permanent ink (Staz-On or Archival) and let it dry completely!  The rubber stamps I used are from Heartfelt Creations and I stamped several different sizes of the flowers.

Once the ink was dry, I adhered the stamped acetate to a double sided adhesive sheet (there are several brands out there, but mine was the Miracle Sheets from Viva Las Vegas Stamps).  Cut out the images and peel of the protective layer.  Begin applying the glitter to the back side of the flower.  I used a combination of Art Glitter Gala Glitz (gold) and PK Glitz glitter (eggplant, burgundy, and gilded fern).  Make sure you burnish the glitter into the background really well with your finger tips.  This helps it adhere to the adhesive better.  I bent each of the petals slightly for a more dimensional look and layered three different sizes of the flowers to make one complete flower.  A Swarovski crystal was used for the flower center.

The word art is printed on vellum and is from Paper Makeup Stamps.   A Lifestyles Crafts die (nesting doily rectangle) was used to cut out the sentiment and I completed the project with a bit of ribbon.  This was definitely a fun project to make and I plan on making many more projects using glitter as it is SO shimmery in person.

Good luck to all who apply for the Art Glitter design team!

Road Trip

It's Monday and you know what that means:  a new Digi Makeover Challenge.  This week's challenge is one for the boys.

As most boys (young and old) love their cars, I've chosen the car image and one of the sentiments from the Home Matters digi set by Paper Makeup Stamps.  I printed the car twice so I could fussy cut out the image and pop dot the front bumper and headlights for added dimension.  I grunged everything up a bit with a silver paint dauber and everything is colored with Copic markers.

Now it's your turn to create a project For the Boys. Remember, you must use a digi image in your project.  Head on over to the Digi Makeover Challenge blog for the complete set of rules and to see what the rest of the design team has created for you.  You have one week to upload your project.

Copics used: N2, N4, N6, N8    BG0000, B0000, C0    C5, C6, C8, C9, C10    R14, R17, R27, R39

Thank You

I created this CAS (clean and simple) Thank You card using the Cherry Blossom stencil by Dreamweaver Stencils, which after allowing the embossing paste to dry, I colored with Copic markers.  The sentiment is a rubber stamp from Inkadinkado and I stamped it using Creative Inspiration paints (sage).  I brushed the paint directly onto the rubber stamp to "ink" it up and stamped.  It worked great and is nice and shimmery.

I am entering this card in the following challenges: iCopic (flowers); Dreamweavers (CAS); Creative Inspiration paints (thanks).

Tiki Totem

Challenge #40 for Pattie's Creations is Anything Goes.  There are so many fun images to choose from Pattie's Esty store that I had a hard time deciding.  The sponsor for this challenge is Dude Time Doodles and the winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to the store.

I knew I wanted to try a variation of the Frosted Window technique that I saw here, so I thought the Tiki Pole Flora would be a fun image to use this technique with.  In the original tutorial, the vellum image was pop dotted on top of the image on cardstock.  But I wanted an actual window.  (You can see a bit of the inside patterned paper through the front of the card.)  I created the frame around the vellum by stamping a vine image that I've had for a long time and then applying PK Glitz glitter (burgundy, clover) around the inner and outer edge of the frame.

Once you open the card, you can see the vellum window, again framed with PK Glitz glitter, and the main image, which is more vibrantly colored than the vellum image.  I added a clear stamp sentiment to go along with the tropical feel of this card.  This was a fun technique to try and maybe next time, I'll do it the way it was originally suggested.

Now it's your turn to join us at Pattie's Creations for the Anything Goes challenge.  You can use a digi or rubber stamp for you project (the rest of the rules are posted on the site) and you have two weeks.  Don't forget to check out what the rest of the team has created for you - and if you like it, we all love to receive your comments.

Cowpoke

Can you tell by the card that the Dude Time Doodles inspirational theme this week is cowboys?  CowPoke Cal, the Howdy sentiment, and the Star are all from the CowPoke Cal set by Bonibleaux Designs.  Our sponsor for this fun and easy challenge is Paper Temptress and the winner will receive a $20 gift certificate.  Who wouldn't want to win that?!?

Everything is colored with Copic markers and fussy cut out.  Although it's hard to tell from the angle, but Cal is pop dotted pretty high away from the star.  I added twine around his hat, the star, the sentiment, and the card itself (might have gotten a little carried away :-) ).  Scattered Straw Stickles was applied to the wheat and the sentiment was heavily covered with Glossy Accents.  When it was almost dry, I took it and bend it this way and that to give it a nice crackle finish - like an old sign where the varnish is beginning to crack.

The revolvers are actually a Tim Holtz rubber stamp where I stamped the image, as well as made a reverse image.  After both of these were fussy cut out, I applied several layers of sterling silver embossing powder to the images in order to make faux medal embellishments.

Now I hope you are inspired to make your own cowboy themed project.  You have one week to upload your creation to the Dude Time Doodles challenge blog.  Don't forget, it's got to be for a Dude and you need to follow the theme.

Chomp

Challenge #28 from the Digi Makeover Challenge team is from an Inspirational photo: spring colors

I thought Chomps, from Paper Makeup Stamps, was just the cutest thing eating a flower.   I've been seeing a number of white on white projects lately and that's what I decided to do for this spring card.

After coloring Chomps with Copics, I fussy cut him out and adhered him to my first layer.  This was actually a piece of junk mail that I had received a few days earlier.  (For once, something useful.)  The background was plain cream, so I added clouds and a sky with chalks.  This is matted onto a piece of white copy paper spritzed with Smooch Spritz (vanilla ice), which looks very shimmery behind Chomps. The green strip is distressed with Paper Soft Colors (lime green) and the brads are colored with Copics to match the pink flower Chomps is eating.  The base cardstock is embossed with leaves, although they are difficult to see.

Head on over to the Digi Makeover Challenge blog to enter your photo inspired project.  Don't forget, you must use a digi and follow this week's theme.  Check out the rest of the design team's creations for lots more inspiration.

I'm entering this in the following challenge: Mark's Finest Papers (CAS).

Copics used: YR00, YR01, YR02, YR07    YG0000, YG01,  R24, R37, R89    YG03, YG45    RV04, RV09, Y02, Y06, G17    B05

Does this color make me look fat?

I had a little time to do a fun card (non design team) and I decided to try the bleach technique, which is also the challenge at Blockhead Stamps this month.  This is the first time I've tried this technique and I learned a few things, including that all black cardstock isn't created equally.  The first piece of black cardstock I tried was cheap and didn't bleach evenly.  As a result, the color was blotchy too.   I also discovered that embossing ink works much better than watermark ink (Versamark) because it holds more of the embossing powder and you get a sharper outline.   Lastly, you need to be patient.   After coloring the image, it didn't pop - at all!  It looked quite dull in fact.  I didn't have water based markers, so I tried pigment and dye ink markers (all waterproof), Smooch pearlized inks, and Distress Inks with a water brush.  All of them looked dull.

Since I wasn't getting anywhere, I walked away for a few hours.  When I came back to my craft room, the colors were much brighter.  And I was much happier.  Not only did I do the ladybugs, a rubber stamp from Unity Stamps, I also stamped and bleached one of the Unity butterflies (I'll didn't have time to create a card with this one, but I will soon because it's gorgeous!).  Out of all the different inks I tried, I liked the Marvy dye based markers and the Smooch pearlized inks the best, as these were the brightest.  I used both on this card.  I also used Smooch Spritz on my sentiment tab.

This was an interesting technique to try and I would like to do it again with water-based markers to see if there is a difference.  Have you tried this technique before?

Tiny Dancer

The Digi Makeover Challenge for this week is to use a critter.  There are several to choose from  at Paper Makeup Stamps.  After much debate, I decided on Lucy Mouse.

After coloring her with my Copic markers, the 80's song "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John popped into my head and, as they say, the rest is history.  The background mats were cut using Scrap-Mart's Label 1 dies (#3,4,5) and the largest and smallest embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder (hounds tooth) and the middle panel was white cardstock spritzed with Walnut Ink.  The tiles are from Doodlebug Design and are in various shades of lavender, the tiny rick rack is from Really Reasonable Ribbon, and the card base is from Basic Grey.

I can't wait to see what type of Critter you use to enter the challenge.  You have one week to upload your critter to the Digi Makeover Challenge blog.  Don't forget: 1) it must be a digi image; 2) follow this week's theme; 3) if you use a Paper Makeup Stamp digi image, the winner's prize will be larger; and 4) be sure to visit the rest of the team to see what critters they have used to inspire you (not required, but we'd all love it if you left us comments :-) telling us what you think.)

Chef Pattieboop

Are you ready for Challenge #39 from Pattie's Creations?  Hope so because it's a fun one: Tags.

Chef Pattieboop was my inspiration for the tag.  You can find this and lots of other images at Pattie's Esty store.  The background was created with Paper Soft Colors (Sunny Yellow) and the image is colored with Copic markers.  The Dainty Dots Border at the top is a die-namic from My Favorite Things and the sentiment is a clear stamp from Stampendous.

Now it's time for you to create a tag and upload it to Pattie's Creations challenge blog.  You'll have two weeks.  Be sure to see what the rest of the design team has for your viewing pleasure too.

If You've Got It, Flaunt It

Spring colors is the Dude Time Doodles challenge for this First Wednesday of the month.  Here's your inspiration photo and colors.

I wanted to try the Rocker cards that I've been seeing around blogland and found they are very easy to make.   I also wanted to try something a bit different for the base, so I used my Mega Italian Flourish die from Cheery Lynn Designs.  The paper is by Core'dinations, so it's nice and heavy and easily stands on it's own.

Since the die is a bit lacy, I thought the Corset I image from Bonibleaux Designs would be perfect.  I created my own background by airbrushing Copic markers over a mask created from the Canadian Kaleidoscope die by Cheery Lynn Designs onto white cardstock.  For the "lace" behind the Corset, I cut out two additional Canadian Kaleidoscope die cuts, cut each one in half, and folded each of the four pieces accordion style and layered them on top of each other.

I punched holes in the Corset so I could thread the gold elastic cording, which is recycled from an old tag, through the holes to add a more realistic look to the corset.  I also used my gold Spica glitter pen to coordinate the sides of the corset with the cording.  On the inside, I die cut my paper with the Eyelet Square (#4) from Spellbinders.  I heat embossed my sentiment, from I Brake for Stamps, with gold embossing powder and added a Flourish Accent from Spellbinders.

Now it's your turn to show us how you use these Spring Colors.  Just remember, the project needs to be for a Dude and follow the theme.  You don't have to use Bonibleux Designs digital images, but we really like it when you do!  There's lots of great choices at the store.  Check it out for yourself.  You have one week to upload using the linky button at Dude Time Doodles Challenge Blog.  Be sure to also check out what the rest of the Dude and Dudettes created for you.

I'm entering this project in the following challenges: Cheery Lynn Designs (use a doily), Mark's Finest Papers (recycle), Stampendous Impressions (shaped project), SweetStamps (monochromatic).

CAS Sailboat

Please scroll down for my Pattie's Creations post for today.

Clean and Simple (one of my favorites) is this week's challenge from the Digi Makeover Challenge team.

You can't get much simpler than this, but it looks really good in person.  I've chosen the Sailboat from the Sailing By set by Paper Makeup Stamps.  Glossy accents was added to all the "wood" portions for a nice sheen.  I also printed the double sail twice so I could pop dot it for added dimension.  The boat itself is also pop dotted so it's not right up against the sun.  I like to try and use my "stuff" in different ways besides the obvious.  As I was looking at the Italian Flourish doily from Cheery Lynn Designs, I though it would make a pretty good sun shining behind the sailboat.  What do you think?

Now it's your turn to impress us with your CAS project.  The rules are on the Digi Makeover Challenge blog, but the main ones are you must use a digi and follow this week's theme.  If you use a Paper Makeup Stamps digi (and we love it when you do), the prize will be bigger.  Don't forget to see what the rest of the team has created to inspire you.

I'm also entering this in the Cheery Lynn Designs (use a doily) challenge for this week.

Wheelbarrow Allie

Pattie's Creations is the sponsor for the 100th challenge at Craft Your Passion today. So that means it's going to be BIG.  The theme is Anything Goes - how fun and easy. Their rules are listed on the challenge site.

For my card, I decided to color Allie and Wheelbarrow from Pattie's Esty store.  If you haven't visited her store lately, you really need to.  There are so many cute images to choose from. Everything is colored with Copic markers and for dimension, I added Flower Soft to all the flowers in the wheelbarrow.  A bit of tulle, ribbon, and other embellishments and I have a card ready for most any occasion.

Now it's your turn to join in the festivities.  Be sure to see what the other Pattie's Creations design team members came up with for this special challenge.
