Secrets {Lavinia World #22}

Hey everyone, it's Thursday and time for a new Lavinia World Challenges #22. The theme is always anything goes using a stamped image (rubber or clear, but no digis) and the winner will receive a generous $15 gift certificate to do some shopping at Lavinia World.

For today's card I decided to play around with alcohol inks and glossy photo paper.  I know that people say you should only use glossy paper and the photo paper doesn't work.....but I have a bunch of it and decided to see if it would work or not.  Luckily, I had no problems using the photo paper and I liked the results.

As you can see from the above photo, I created two panels and used the same color combo on both of these.  The only difference is the way I applied my felt blending tool.  On the one on the left, I pounced the blending tool up and down on the paper.  For the one on the right, I swirled it around.  It created two completely different looks!

Next, using a Tonic Studio die set (Beautiful Bramble Square), I die cut the purple background using the outside die from the set.  Using a stamp positioner, I then stamped the Flower Fairy onto the patterned background.  I added glitter to her wings and to the berries.  This was a whiteish-pink looking, semi-transparent glitter from Tonic Studios (Sparkle Dust) that actually changed color when placed on this background.  I didn't realize it did that but I love the results.

I then used the alcohol ink panel that was on the left from the above photo and die cut the leaves using the same Tonic Studios die set. I added dimensional foam to the bottom and adhered it on top of my focal image.

Next I adhered these layers on top of the second alcohol ink panel I created.  I stamped the sentiment using VersaFine black ink and then framed it using the Poppy Stamps Stitchwork Rectangle Frames.  Glitter was also used to accent each of these frames.

Now a bit about my project.  I combined the Big Day stamp set with the Basic Grey Calendar kit.  Instead of using photos, I used digi stamps that coordinated with that month's theme and enhanced the digis with lots of glitter, embossing powder, and flock.  Get ready as this is a photo intensive post :-).

To decorate the calendar cover, I used the items in the kit, plus I double embossed each of the stamps in the Big Day stamp set.  I first heat embossed with a color and then covered the entire square again with VersaMark and heat embossed with Sparkle embossing powder to give each one some added punch.

I decided it would be easier to create my own stickers for the Big Day stamps rather than stamping each individual month.  To do this, I stamped the images onto SNS Sticker Paper with various Distress Inks, covered the inks with Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set.  Then I cut out each of the individual stickers.  You could make up a whole bunch at once and keep them in an envelope (attached to the calendar) and use them as you need them.

Happy Day

Today I'm showcasing the new Spring Bike die by Die-Versions.

I started out by die cutting the bicycle in cream, black, and red so that I could paper piece parts of the bike onto the red bike base.  The basket and flowers were die cut three times in cream so they could be stacked on top of each other for added dimension.  Sometimes it's easier to die cut several pieces and adhere them together rather than adding a pop dot to the back, especially if it's a small area that you want more dimension on.  The top layer of the basket and flowers were colored with Copic markers, Wink of Stella glitter pens, and Spica glitter pens.

I cut off the bike seat, tires, and hand grips from the black cardstock die cut and adhered it to the red bike.  All of the silver pieces of the bike were colored using a Wink of Stella glitter pen.  Glossy Accents was added to the red portions of the bike so it would look like the red beach cruiser bike that I have :-).  Lastly, I die cut the Spring Bike one more time out of black fun foam and adhered it to the back of the finished bike for dimension (and a touch of shadow near the flowers).

The background circle is a die from Little B (Circles) that includes the dots around the perimeter.  I die cut the same circle without the dots from black cardstock and adhered it behind the patterned paper to make the dots pop.

The sentiment banner, which is a die from MFT (Fishtail Flags), was created using a rubber stamp from Simon Says Stamp (Always Edge Set AE6) and was heat embossed with White Detail embossing powder from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I also sprinkled on some Buttercup Petal embossing powder on top of the sentiment to give the banner a speckled look.  As a final touch to the banner, I used Sparkle embossing powder and the Bling Your Brad technique on a heart shaped brad that I had.

Old Mailbox

Sparkle N Sprinkle has added a new artist to their line up - Beccy Muir.  SNS has Beccy's complete line of digital stamps and a select few will also be made into rubber.  I've used the digi version of Old Mailbox and created several different versions.  I chose this image because I wanted to work on my coloring of rust, although not all the cards feature a rusty mailbox. (I hope it looks like rust and not random dots :-).)

For the first card I colored the image with Copic markers and added Amethyst Spray embossing powder to the flower stems beside the mailbox with a VersaMark embossing pen and heat embossed them.  Spellbinders dies were used to cut out the image and to create a mat behind the image.

For this card, I used a variation of the spotlighting technique found in the SNS Tips and Techniques section.  I printed the image out 3 times so I could fussy cut out various sections.  The wooden posts are colored with Distress Stains and fussy cut out of one of the printouts.  I colored the mailbox and bird in the second printout and fussy cut.  For the final printout, I cut the entire image out with a Lifestyles Crafts scalloped oval die.  I adhered the colored mailbox on top of the colored posts and even though I didn't pop dot it, that small layer added just enough dimension.  Next, I pop dotted the entire spotlighted mailbox to the main (non-colored) image.  I added some random dots of Saukra glue pen to the rust on the mailbox and added Tiger Orange glitter for bits of sparkle and I also used Tiger Orange glitter to create my sentiment, which is a Die-Versions die.

For the final card of the day (I know it's a pretty long post), the image is colored with Copic markers and I fussy cut out the entire image so I could pop dot it above my background, which was created using Basic Grey papers.  The flower stalks on the side of the mailbox were covered with Sakura glitter and Evening Glow glitter for a touch of bling.

Howard Ho Ho Zzzz

The Dude Time Doodles Inspiration Challenge this week is all about the Holidays.

Howard Ho Ho Zzzz is doing the honors today, but he's all tired out after eating a huge meal.  He's wearing his favorite Christmas tee shirt (paper pieced from digi papers from Create with TLC) and is asleep on the couch (also paper pieced with papers from Basic Grey).  The rest of the image is colored with Copic markers and Lifestyle Crafts (nesting scalloped ovals) die was used to cut the image.  Diamond Dust covers the furry parts of the Santa hat for added sparkle.

This card is also an interactive card - meaning the recipient does more than just open the card.  In this case, they will need to pull out the tag to read the sentiment.  The sentiment is also from Create with TLC and is cut out with a Spellbinders die.  As an added bonus, the sentiment tag becomes a gift tag (I stamped "To:  From:" on the back side).  Pretty cool, huh?!

Mama Yoga

I discovered a new place to purchase digital images thanks to Tammy.  It's Mayzy Arts and her images are a delight to color.  Love the way she draws hair and eyes (which usually give me troubles).  This is Yoga Mama from the parenthood section, and she's colored with Copic markers.

I also used a couple of recycled items.  Can you guess what they are?  The "yoga mat" that she's sitting on is actually a piece of nubby shelf liner and the yellow background is a piece of packing material from a die I purchased that I painted some gesso on for more of a distressed look.

Today's challenge from Paper Makeup Stamps' Digi Makeover Challenge is to use bright colors.  This is easy for me as I love brighter colors and have a hard time with pastels.

Both my image and sentiment are from the Caffeine Trip set by Paper Makeup Stamps.  This was so fun to color with all my florescent Copic markers.  The image is cut out with Spellbinder's Wonky Squares (#6 - assumes #1 is the smallest) and the sentiment is cut with Spellbinder's Deckled Mega Rectangles Large (#1).  The background paper is by Basic Grey (Lime Rickey) and the card base is Core'dinations.  I added Glossy Accents to all of the dot on the paper for more dimension.

Tiny Dancer

The Digi Makeover Challenge for this week is to use a critter.  There are several to choose from  at Paper Makeup Stamps.  After much debate, I decided on Lucy Mouse.

After coloring her with my Copic markers, the 80's song "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John popped into my head and, as they say, the rest is history.  The background mats were cut using Scrap-Mart's Label 1 dies (#3,4,5) and the largest and smallest embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder (hounds tooth) and the middle panel was white cardstock spritzed with Walnut Ink.  The tiles are from Doodlebug Design and are in various shades of lavender, the tiny rick rack is from Really Reasonable Ribbon, and the card base is from Basic Grey.
