Sun and Surf

It's the first Wednesday of the month, so that means it's time for a new challenge from Dude Time Doodles.  This week's challenge is all about sports.

Living in the South, most everyone lives for football.  Other sports (basketball, baseball) are fillers until college ball begins again.  Since I lived in California for many years, I immediately thought Waylon Waves  would be a fun image to use for sports day.

After coloring with Copic markers and fussy cutting,  I pop dotted Waylon onto Creative Memories paper cut with Spellbinders Labels Ten.  As I was trying to decide how to make the card base, I found this piece of Echo Park paper (Splash collection) in my stash and it started screaming to be made into a layout.  I used to do layouts all the time, but not so much anymore.  There are probably less than five posts on my blog with layouts.  But it's fun to do something different for a change.  I kept going through my stash and adding layers that coordinated.  I even have a pocket tag for journaling (or another photo).  On the Bazzill cardstock base, I randomly painted watered down gesso for a fun look.  The border on the side is from Lifestyle Crafts.  Nothing fancy or formal, but low key - just like a dude ridin' the waves.

One final note, for those of you afraid to use glitter on your guy creations, don't be.  If you look closely, I've added PK Glitz glitter to the white cap and parts of the water.  Gives a very shimmery look to the layout.

You have one week to upload your Sports themed project to the Dude Time Doodles challenge blog.  Remember, it needs to be for a Dude.  Can't wait to see what sport you use.

I'm entering this in the following challenges: That Craft Place (one for the boys); The Crazy Challenge (summer/beach); Ooh La La (make it manly).

Brandt

This week's Digi Makeover Challenge is a sketch and I used Brandt Fairy and sentiment from Paper Makeup Stamps.

I adhered to the sketch pretty closely, although I made my circle much larger as I made a 5"x5" square card.  Brandt is colored with Copic markers and I used Smooch Pearlized Ink (azure, siren) on the sentiment.  The border is by Memory Box (Sanibel border)  and I distressed everything with Distress Inks (Faded Jeans).  The backing papers are from Authentique and the card base is from Bazzill.

Be sure to check out what the rest of the design team has created for you.  You have one week to upload your project to the Digi Makeover Challenge blog.  Be sure to use a digi on your project.

Appreciate Beauty in Everything

Today I have a CAS (clean and simple) card for you.  I used the bleach technique again (for another example, see my post here) to make this card with this beautiful butterfly rubber stamp from Unity Stamps.   After heat embossing and bleaching out the black paper, I colored the image with Marvy markers and added Enamel Accents in the four corners.

For the inside of the card, I followed the same design but added the Dainty Doily from Lifestyle Crafts, which I spritzed with Smooch Spritz (silver foil) and my sentiment "appreciate the beauty in everything".  This sentiment, which is another rubber stamp from Unity Stamps, was created by cutting out sticky paper with Spellbinders (Curved Rectangles #1 and #2) and covering with PK Glitz glitter (silver, burgundy).  At first I wasn't sure how to get the message onto to glittered burgundy background, but decided to stamp the image in a glue pad, stamp directly onto the glitter and then glitter again.  Guess what? It worked!  This looks extremely shimmery in person.  The camera didn't do it justice, no matter how many times I tried to photograph it.  :-)

I'm also entering this in the following challenges: Crazy 4 Challenges (use black cardstock); Through the Craftroom Door (favorite technique)

For You

This was a very fun card to make.  As you can probably tell, I'm loving glitter at the moment.  Needless to say though, I get it all over me.  The flower stencil is from Dreamweavers and I used PK Glitz glitter as well as PK Glitz Sticky Paper.  If you use this paper, you don't have to apply soap to the back of the stencil - it pulls off easily.  (I must admit that I tried a few other sticky backed papers that I had laying around and they didn't work - at all.)  The border is from Cheery Lynn Designs and the sentiment is a rub on from Sizzix that I've had for ages.  I wish you could see this card in person as it is so shimmery and sparkly.

I'm entering this card in the following challenges: Dreamweavers (flowers); Great Impressions (flowers); Cheery Lynn Designs (think spring).

PK Glitz glitters: Pine Forest, Sea Mist, Golden Diamond, Crystal, Violet
