Nativity Globe {Scrapy Land #77}

Wow, it's already November and that means Thanksgiving (in the US)  and Christmas are just around the corner!  It also the first Wednesday of the month and time for a new Scrapy Land Challenge.  The theme is always Anything Goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.

The following dies were used to create this card.

Die-Versions:  Nativity Ornament
Die-Versions: Noel Sweet Wordlet
Tonic Studios: Ribbon and Bows layering set

These are the steps I used to create this card:
1.     Die cut the Nativity Ornament from white cardstock.  Cut off the ornament topper and bow to make it a circle.
2.     Apply VersaMark to the top of the die cut, cover with Sparkle embossing powder and heat set.
3.     Die cut the base portion of the Snow globe die set twice from white cardstock.
4.     Spritz both of the bases with a combination of Walnut Ink and Terra Cotta Walnut Ink.  Continue lightly spritzing each color until you are happy with the results.  Once the paper is dry, you can highlight the lines on the base with a Copic marker (or your favorite marker).
5.     Die cut the globe portion of the Snow Globe set twice, one from white cardstock and one from black cardstock.
6.     Using the Direct to Paper method, cover the black globe circle with Opalite (Glacier Blue).  Make sure to get good coverage.
7.     Adhere the embossed Nativity scene to the Opalite enhanced globe.  Insert the globe into the stand and add a piece of tape to the back to hold the two pieces together.
8.     Die cut the plate label from the Snow Globe set twice from white cardstock.
9.     Apply VersaMark to each of these plate labels, cover with Sparkle embossing powder, and heat set. Add two “nails” to the plate label with a marker.
10.  Die cut the Noel Sweet Wordlet from white cardstock.
11.  Using the Direct to Paper method, apply Encore! gold metallic ink to the die cut.
12.  Adhere to one of the plate labels created above.
13.  Adhere the completed plate label to the snow globe base.
14.  Die cut the patterned paper using the Tonic Studios layering die set.
15.  Cut a piece of black cardstock 4 ½” x 12” and score at the 6” mark for a top folding card base.
16.  Temporarily adhere the larger layering die on top of the folded card base.  The top of the die should be slightly above the card fold.  Once you have the die positioned correctly, die cut to create a shaped card.
17.  Apply Opalite ink around the edges of the cardstock. Make sure your strip is wider than the openings in the patterned paper previously die cut.
18.  Place the patterned paper die cut over the front of the card base and make sure all the peek-a-boo openings are covered with Opalite ink.  Then adhere to the card front.
19.  Adhere the finished globe on top of the patterned paper.
20.  Take a small strip of ribbon, tie into a knot and adhere to the top of the card with a small glue dot.

Now it's your turn.  You have until November 12 to join us for the Scrapy Land Challenge.  Be sure to check out what the rest of the team has done to inspire you too.

Strawberries in Clay Pot

Hey everyone!  Today I'm sharing a card using the Pattie's Creations digi image Strawberries in a Clay Pot.  The challenge for the next two weeks is Anything Goes.  Since everyone needs lots of birthday cards, this is what I created.  Plus I incorporated a new technique for me as well.

To start off, I colored the image with Copic markers, fussy cut it out, and added Glossy Accents to the berries so they would be more dimensional.  After my background was completed, I only ran adhesive up the center of the image so the strawberry vines would have dimension and be lifted off the background.

For the background, I began by applying embossing paste through a The Crafters Workshop mini stencil (mini harlequin).  Immediately after taking the stencil off, I covered it with Sparkle N Sprinkle's Blissful Blue Sparkle N Soft flock.  Since I didn't want to ruin the design, I lightly pressed the flock into the paste, but not too hard.  Then I let it dry completely.  When I shook off the excess flock, there was a light layer that stuck to the embossing paste - just what I wanted.  I wanted to have a couple areas with heavier amounts of flock, so I took my heat gun and heated up a few of the diamonds and then rubbed more flock into them.  The diamonds were heated enough to let the flock adhere to them, but not so hot that they changed shape.

Next I die cut this with the Sizzix Cameo Frame die.  I didn't want to leave the background white, so I spritzed the entire thing with Tsukineko Walnut Inks (Terra Cotta and Cornflower).  Since the embossing paste acts as a resist, I was able to take a paper towel and blot off all the excess ink from the flocked areas.

I added a couple corner dies from MFT (Four Corners) and added my sentiment, which was die cut from a Memory Box die (Primo Labels).  I added Glossy Accents over the sentiment as well.

Cinderella Slipper

Another new stamp release from Sparkle N Sprinkle is the Cinderella Slipper (#528).  One of the sentiments reminded me of someone shaking up a snow globe, wishing for their fairy tale to begin.  So, that lead me to today's design.

The snow globe die set is by Impression Obsession.  The circle that comes with the set was a bit too small, so I substituted a bit larger circle from Spellbinders.

I stamped the shoe and sentiment, using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, at the same time so my placement would be like I wanted it.  These were then heat embossed with Clear Detail embossing powder.   SNS Dimensional Glue was applied over the shoe and covered with Orchid glitter.  The "snow" in the snow globe is actually Swan Wing Tinsel glitter.   Copics were used to color the inside of the shoe.

The snow globe base was colored using Distress Inks (Tea Dye, Vintage Photo, and Walnut Stain) and a blending tool. The tag on the base (part of that set), was covered with Cloud Nine velvet glitter and then stamped with another one of the words from the stamp set.  Liquid Pearls (White Opal) was added for the nail tacks.

I stamped the shoe twice more so I could fussy cut out the flowers.  These are covered with Pistachio, Collegiate Garnet, Dazzling Rose, Sunny Daze, and Bubblegum glitters.  After all the glitter was dry, I pop dotted the two on the shoe and added another one by my sentiment.

The purple background started out as a piece of plain cardstock.  To jazz it up a bit, I first applied VersaMark to one side of a Cuttlebug embossing folder (Rosa) and then ran it through my machine.  Next I covered it with Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it.  This added some sheen and darkened the recessed areas of the paper.  The card base was spritzed with Walnut Ink (Cherry Blossom) to give it a bit more pizazz as well.

Nap Time

TGIF!  and since it's Friday, that means it's time for a new challenge from Pattie's Creations.  Today's challenge is a Recipe.  Use 3 or more of the following: buttons, ribbon, flowers, glitter, charm, sentiment, gems or pearls.

I decided to use Nap Time from Pattie's Esty store for this challenge because the image is so darn cute!  Well, I was able to incorporate four of the ingredients into my card - glitter, ribbon, pearls, sentiment.  The image was printed three times and colored with Copic markers.  As you can see by the photo on the right, I have a base, then I cut out the kitten and the lip of the pot to pop dot, and finally I have pop dotted just the kitten.  Lots of fun dimension going on.

For the background behind the image, I stamped Hero Arts/Basic Grey rubber stamps (Picadilly collection) with glue and then sprinkled glitter all over.  Various Spellbinder dies were used to cut out the circle, the scalloped circle, and the scalloped oval.   I applied a Pearl Pen (Ice White) around each scallop for my pearls.  Originally, my base for the glittered background was white, but I didn't like it.  So I spritzed Walnut Ink (Terra Cotta) on it, which brought out the silver glitter better and coordinated with the terra cotta pot.  I also sprited the card base with this Walnut Ink as well.  My sentiment is a rubber stamp from Stampabilities that I've had for a while.  It says "a little Hello", but the hello is not as clear in the photo because I also highlighted that word with a glitter pen and it's reflecting.

Here is a close up of the image, and you can see the dimension a bit better as well. From head on, you really don't see three sets of paws (it was the upward angle of my shot).

Now it's your turn to stir up a scrumptious   project using at least three of the ingredients listed above.  You'll have two weeks to upload it to Pattie's Creations challenge blog.  Be sure to visit the rest of the team and see which ingredients they used for their projects.
