With Sympathy {Scrapy Land #130}

Happy Wednesday!  Time for a brand new Scrapy Land Challenge.  The theme is Anything Goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.  They have over 55 brands, so I bet you have at least one of those name brands 😀

I recently needed a sympathy card, so I decided to show you what I created for a friend of mine. The following dies were used to create this card:

Spellbinders - Floral Oval

Tutti Designs - Dotted Nesting Rectangles

This is a pretty straightforward card.  I inlayed the oval back into the front card panel after die cutting it and then added my floral spray.  I die cut the flowers that are offset on top of the floral spray using a patterned cardstock.  Nuvo Crystal Drops were added to the flower centers.

The sentiment is from a Reverse Confetti stamp set called Tall Blooms.  It didn't exactly fit the standard sizes of my rectangles.  So I stamped the sentiment onto vellum, then die cut it using the rectangle that best fit the length of the sentiment.  As this was too tall, I then moved the die down to where I needed it, and die cut the top edge again.  This gave me the exact size I needed.

For the inside, I adhered a piece of vellum to write my message and two more of the flowers.

Now it's your turn to join us for the Scrapy Land Challenge #130!  You have until February 2 to join us and possibly win the $15 gift code to go shopping at Scrapy Land.  We can't wait to see what you create and share with us.

Until next time.....

2020 Treat Bag {Scrapy Land #129}

Happy 2020!  It's a brand new year and a brand new decade - so exciting!!

It's also time for a brand new Scrapy Land Challenge 😀.  The theme is always Anything Goes using any brand of metal die that Scrapy Land sells.  This challenge ends on Jan 12 and the winner will receive a $15 gift certificate to do some shopping at Scrapy Land.

Since it's the start of a new year, I decided to make a few treat bags for some friends to help celebrate.  And of course, it's filled with chocolates!

I used the following dies to create this adorable little bag:

Sizzix
: Lori Whitlock-Box, Favor with Bracket Flap (this would also work, or this, or this....just to name a few)
Sizzix: TIm Holtz Alphanumeric (any of these would also work)
Tutti Designs: Champagne Flutes

This was pretty straightforward to create.  I used heavy cardstock for the bag and glittered cardstock for the date.  The champagne flutes and the bracket decoration were die cut from mirrored gold cardstock. A small bow gives it the finishing touch.

Now it's your turn to play along with us for the Scrapy Land Challenge #129.  Be sure to check out the amazing projects by the other designers and then go check out all the brands of dies Scrapy Land has.

This is my second post of the day.  Please scroll down for some exciting news I have and would like to share with you 😀.

And have a Happy New Year!!

Trees in Snow {Scrapy Land #128}

Hey everyone, it's time for a new Scrapy Land Challenge #128.  I have one more Christmas card to share with you today.  The theme is always Anything Goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells (hint: there are over 55 brands, so more than likely you have a few of these brand in your stash 😀).

The following dies were used to create my card:

Dee's Distinctively: Christmas Tree Silhouette (these would also work)
Dee's Distinctively: Christmas Tree #3 (this Frantic Stamper set would work really well)
Sizzix: Swirling Stars (this Sue Wilson die would work well)
Sizzix: Tim Holtz Holiday Words Script
Paper Smooches: Stitched (these would also work)

The tree silhouettes were die cut from mirrored cardstock and the overlays were die cut from matte mirrored cardstock.  The center tree has been pop dotted for added interest.

I die cut the snowy hill from embossed white specialty paper.  Since this Paper Smooches die only adds the stitching of a hill, I snipped off the top part with a pair of scissors.

Blue glittered cardstock was used for the sky and bright yellow glittered cardstock was added to the back to make the stars pop.

The sentiment was die cut from mirrored silver cardstock.

I have to say, the photos really don't do this card justice.  It is pretty impressive in person and is one of my favorites that I have created this year.  If you omit the sentiment, it would also look nice for a wintery decoration.

Now it's your turn to join us for the Scrapy Land Challenge #128, which ends on Dec 29.  The winner of the challenge will receive a $15 gift certificate to Scrapy Land and is chosen by random.org.  The Designers choose the Top Three and Honorable Mention categories.

Until next time......

Winter Wonderland {Scrapy Land #127}

Welcome to Scrapy Land Challenge #127!  I have a pretty quick and easy Christmas card to share with you today. The theme is always Anything Goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells (hint: there are over 55 brands, so more than likely you have a few of these brand in your stash 😀).

The following dies were used to create my card:

Sue Wilson Designs: Festive Collection-Snowflake Background (these would also work well)
Sizzix: Tim Holtz Holiday Words Script

I stared out by die cutting the Snowflake Background from Gold embossed cardstock, leaving the center oval intact.  Next, using the smallest oval that came in the set (or any oval you have on hand), I die cut white cardstock and then stamped my tree.  This is a Hero Arts stamp set (Color Layered Christmas Tree) and it was stamped with Distress Oxides (Shabby Shutters, Mowed Lawn, Lucky Clover, Pine Needles).  Once this was completed, I decided it was a little too bright for what I had in mind.  So using the next smallest oval, I die cut a piece of vellum and adhered it on top of my tree.  The Christmas tree was then adhered to the center of my Snowflake Background.

A piece of glitter cardstock was used for the card base and the sentiment die cuts.  As I said, pretty quick and easy.  This would be an easy design to mass produce. 😀

Now it's your turn to join us for the Scrapy Land Challenge #127, which ends on Dec 15.  The winner of the challenge will receive a $15 gift certificate to Scrapy Land and is chosen by random.org.  The Designers choose the Top Three and Honorable Mention categories.

Until next time......

Joy {Scrapy Land #126}

Hey everyone, it's time for the Scrapy Land Challenge #126. The theme is anything goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells (and there are over 55 brands to choose from!)

Today's project has a little story behind it.  I was talking to my good friend Donna and we were discussing techniques that were harder for us to do.  Mine is mostly white and/or white on white cards and hers is Clean and Simple cards.  So we challenged each other!  She nailed her challenge (you can see it on her blog on tomorrow) and here is my response to the challenge.

I've used the following dies to create this card:

Poppy Stamps: Stitchwork Rectangle Frames
Poppy Stamps: Spectacular Joy (any of these would work)

To start off, I used a piece of double sided adhesive paper, cut to size.  I added a piece of cardstock to the backside and used white glitter to cover the front side.  I then ran my Stitchwork Rectangle Frames through my die cutting machine. When you get the this die set, they are linked together by small wires. I decided not to cut the dies apart and left them as they were.  It made it easier to cut all the frames at one time and it left the spacing between each frame perfect.

I used the same process to create my sentiment.  Although everything was sparkly white, the word "Joy" didn't show up as much as I wanted.  So I used a Copic marker to add color to the center die cut.

To continue the theme of white on white, my card base is white cardstock.  Texture was added to the front of the card with an embossing folder.  I then began randomly adhering my frames to the front and finished it with my sentiment.

I really like how this turned out, so I created a second card.  This time, however, I changed the color of the card base to green.  It always amazes me how one little change can make a huge difference :-).

Now it's your turn to come play along with the Scrapy Land Challenge design team.  You have until Sunday, December 1 to upload your project for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate to Scrapy Land.  We can't wait to see what you create!

Until next time......

Thankful {Scrapy Land #125}

Hey everyone, welcome to the Scrapy Land Challenge #125!  Today's card is a very quick and easy card using patterned paper and dies from Scrapy Land.

The following dies were used for this project:

Sue Wilson Designs: Australian Collection-Background (this is out of stock at the moment, but so many of her dies would work perfectly for this technique.)

Memory Box: Plump Pumpkin

I started out with a sheet of patterned paper that had a fall theme and the word "thankful" printed many times on the sheet.  Using the filigree die from the Sue Wilson set, I placed the opening so that I could capture one of the "thankful" words in the center of the rectangle.  Once I was happy with the placement, I ran it through my die cut machine.

Next, using one of the solid rectangles, I die cut a piece of double sided adhesive and place the patterned paper on top.  I added a seaspray shade of blue glitter to the exposed adhesive for a very glittery affect.

This focal point was then adhered to my next layer, which was die cut using the largest die in this set.  I adhered this to my black card base.

For an added touch of fall, I die cut the Memory Box pumpkin twice and colored both of them with Copic markers and Spectrum Noir Sparkle Markers.

The final touch was tracing the word "thankful" with a glue pen and adding yellow/orange glitter to the word.

This is a very sparkly card and I know my recipient will love all the added glitter. 😀

The Scrapy Land Challenge #125 goes until Nov 17 and the theme is Anything Goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.  There are 55+ brands to choose from, so I bet you have at least one of them.😉

Happy crafting........

For You {Scrapy Land #124}

Hey everyone, it's Wednesday and time for a brand new Scrapy Land Challenge.  The theme is always anything goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.  Since they carry a huge selection of brands, I'd bet you have at least one of the brands in your stash 😆.

For today's project, I used the following dies:

Sue Wilson Designs: Noble Dies-Ornate Pierced Rectangles (almost any of her dies would work)

Altenew: Envelope Liner Dies (one of the sentiments - any of these would work)

I die cut the frames from kraft cardstock and the background from handmade black paper.  Using white cardstock, I die cut the focal point, saving some of the negative pieces to inlay back into the main piece.

The main piece was embossed with Copper embossing powder and the negative pieces were colored with Spectrum Noir Sparkle markers.

I really wanted this to look like a stained glass piece, so instead of coloring on the front side of each piece, I colored the backs.  That way, when the negative piece was placed back into the main piece, it was inverted. This really makes the copper edges look soldered around the colored pieces.  This really does sparkle and shine in person - just like a stained glass piece would.

I die cut my sentiment and adhered it to the bottom edge of the focal point.  Any type of sentiment would work.  It also looked good just by itself 😀.

A bit of clear sparkle marker ink was randomly added around the edges of the outer frame.

Won't you join us for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate to Scrapy Land?  This Scrapy Land Challenge #124 goes until Nov 3.  Don't forget to check out the other design team members wonderful projects!

Until next time.....

Grateful {Scrapy Land #123}

Hey everyone, it's the first Wednesday of the month and I've created this fall card for the Scrapy Land Challenge #123 that begins today.  The winner of this challenge will receive a $15 gift certificate to Scrapy Land!

I used the following dies in this home decor piece:

Concord & 9th: Autumn Harvest Masking Dies
Concord & 9th: Autumn Harvest stamp set
Sizzix: Ticket Fold A Long

A number of people asked how I created my Rolled Edge Frame cards that I recently created, that I decided to do a tutorial on it.  Once you see how easy it is, you'll be amazed.  It's one of those techniques that is so easy but has a huge WOW factor that makes it look like it took forever and is so complicated 😀.

To start off, you will need two sheets of double sided paper or cardstock that are the same and a third sheet that coordinates.  They all need to be cut the same size.  This one is 8.5" x 6.5" and the previous ones I created were 9" x 7" and 5" x 7".  You could also create a square frame as well.

The patterned paper I decided to use was not double sided, so I photocopied them using my color printer.  Instant double sided paper 😁.

Take the two sheets that are the same and position them so that the same patterned paper is facing each other.  As you can see in the photo above, the 'pumpkin' side of the paper is facing each other.  (If you alined these together with your hands, you would see that the 'thankful' paper is on the front and back and you wouldn't see the 'pumpkin' papers at all.  I hope that makes sense.)

The two pieces that are on the "inside" will be what will be showing once you have rolled the edges (this will become more clear a little bit later.)

Now you have two options: you can either do the next step separately to each sheet of patterned paper or you can adhere the two sheets together before beginning the next step.

If you adhere the two pieces together beforehand, be sure to ONLY add adhesive around the very edges.

Now you are ready to create the rolled frame.  I prefer to adhere both pieces beforehand, so that's what I did and that's how the instructions are written.  If you decide to do each sheet separately, then adhere the two sheets together (only along the edges) after you have rolled all eight points.

Place your paper onto a cutting mat and using a ruler and an X-acto knife, cut a large X in the center of your papers.

Leave approximately 1" from each point for a margin.  So starting approximately 1" from one point, cut through the paper (or both papers if you adhered them together in the previous step) diagonally to the opposite corner, stopping approximately 1" from the end of the point.  Repeat this step so that you have created an X.

Time to begin rolling your edges.

Begin by lightly spritzing the top layer with water. Take one of the points and begin rolling it toward the outside of the cardstock using a pencil (or other rounded object).  If you like a tighter roll, leave the pencil in there for a few seconds more as the water dries. If you like it looser, then take the pencil out as soon as you have finished rolling.  You can roll all the way to the end of the cut line, or stop a little short of the cut.  It's personal preference.

Continue rolling until all four points have been rolled.  You do not need to spritz your paper with water each time.  As you can see above, now the inside 'pumpkin' paper is showing.

Now you should lightly spritz the inside points and roll with a pencil, as you did above.

This is what your rolled frame should look like once you have rolled all 8 points.  As you can see, the second rolled edge shows the patterned paper that was on the back.  At this point, you can leave the rolled edges as is or you can also add a bit of adhesive or a glue dot underneath if you want them to stay more tightly rolled.

Now it's time to add the final piece of patterned paper/cardstock to the back and begin decorating the inside of your frame.

Using the stamp and die cut set from Concord & 9th (anything will work), I stamped multiple colors of the images.  I colored my stamped images with a combination of Copic markers and colored pencils.

One trick I used was to leave the stamps placed on my stamp positioner until after I finished coloring the images (and before die cutting the images out).  I placed the stamped and colored images back onto the stamp positioner and stamped the image again using VersaMark (be sure to clean your stamps before doing this step though 😀).  Then I heat set them with Clear embossing powder.  This gives lots of details and added dimension.

Now you're ready to die cut the stamped images. I love how these dies have a cut line that is right on the edge of the die, so you don't have a white border around your die cut.  These are super easy to line up for perfect cuts each time.

As a finishing touch, I cut four strips of black cardstock, each 1/4" thick, metered the corners, and adhered it to the edges of my rolled frame.

In order to make this truly a piece of home decor that would stand upright on it own, I created an easel backing for it.  This is another super easy thing to do for any card or home decor you want to display.

You want to cut a piece of cardstock 7.5" in length by however wide your card is, or a tad shorter).  In my case, this project is 6.5" wide, so my width was 6.25".  Score at 3", 6", 6.5", and 7".  Create an accordion fold at the bottom and adhere to the back side of your project.

Here's a final look at my completed project:

Wow, this was a LONG post 😁.  Now it's your turn to join us and upload your creation to the Scrapy Land Challenge #123.  It can be anything from a CAS card to mixed media, a scrapbook layout to altered art, or anything in between.  The theme is always anything goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.  You have until Oct 13th.  We can't wait to see what you create 😀!

Until next time......

Hello Gift Pocket {Scrapy Land #122}

Hello all.  It's time for a brand new Scrapy Land Challenge!  The theme is always anything goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.

For today's project, I created a card that incorporates a pocket on the front for a gift card (or money).

The following dies were used to create this project:

Poppy Stamps: Luscious Script Hello
Sue Wilson Designs: Delicate Daisies-Closed Petals
Sue Wilson Designs: Dandelion Clocks
Lil Inkers Designs: Bow-Large (any of these would work)
Little B: Circles (any of these would work)

I started out by creating my focal layer with Nuvo Shimmer Powders and watercolor papers.  (I loved this color so much that I created another card base using the exact same colors that you will see in a future project.😀)

I trimmed down some patterned cardstock to the size I wanted and then used my circle dies to create the opening in the center.  This was then adhered to the watercolor paper.  (Don't forget to only add adhesive to three of the side edges - not the top 😆.) This created my pocket for the gift card.

In order to embellish the pocket front, I die cut the large bow and then heat embossed with glittered embossing powder before assembling it.

I die cut the Daisy flower and two of the Dandelion clocks to add more pizazz to the bow's center.  Once these pieces were adhered together, Nuvo Crystal Drops (Rhubarb Crumble) was added to the Daisy center and to the tips of the Dandelion Clocks.  This was then adhered to the center of the bow after the Crystal Drops had dried.

The large die cut sentiment is perfect for any occasion.

Won't you come join us for the Scrapy Land Challenge #122?  You have until Sept 29 to upload your project for a chance to win a $15 gift certificate to Scrapy Land.

Until next time....

Birthday Wishes {Scrapy Land #121}

Happy Wednesday and happy September! (where has the year gone??) Since it's the first Wednesday of September, that means it's time for a brand new Scrapy Land Challenge #121!  The theme is always anything goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells. (You can find all of them here!)

There will be one winner chosen by random.org who will receive a $15 gift certificate to do some shopping at Scrapy Land.  The Top Three and Honorable Mentions will be chosen by the Designers and everyone that is chosen can download a badge for their blogs 😀.

I loved creating the double rolled frame so much a few weeks ago, I decided to do it again! I used the following dies for this project:

Elizabeth Craft Designs: Garden Edges Rose Hedge
Spellbinders: Bitty Blossoms (this would work as well)
My Favorite Things: Birthday Wishes (any of these would work too)

After creating by Double Rolled Frame, I added my birthday die cut in the center.  Instead of using the tiny dots for the "i"s, I created these tiny rolled roses from the Rose Hedge die set.

Using the same patterned paper as the frame, I die cut the roses and the leaves from my Spellbinders die set and adhered them to the edges.

Now it's time for you to play along with us for the Scrapy Land Challenge #121.  You have until Sept 15 to upload your project for a chance to win the $15 gift certificate to Scrapy Land. We can't wait to see what you create!

Until next time....
