Normal Is Boring!

Fashionista is one of the new stamp sets released in March from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I was fortunate enough to be the colorist for the digi version.  After coloring the image with Copic markers, I felt this image would have more of a punch if I kept clean lines for the card base.

The image was die cut using the Tonic Studios Mixed Edge Rectangle Basics layering die set.  This is one of my go to sets as it is so versatile and has both straight and scalloped edges.  Glue Dots-Pop Up Dots were used to adhere both the focal image to the card base and the sentiment to the focal image.

Her shoes, the straps of her purse, and the dots on her scarf were given extra bling by using Priceless Peacock glitter.  The heart on her purse has added dimension by using Nuvo Crystal Drops (Red Berry).  Glossy Accents gives her sunglasses added shine.

The sentiment was stamped using the Poppy Red Nuvo Hybrid Ink Pad.  After stamping it with the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, I immediately added Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it.  (I use so much of the Clear Detail, that I get it in the Economy size 😊.)

If you frequent my blog very often, you'll notice I do this on almost every sentiment I stamp.  It gives a bit more shine and dimension to the stamped sentiments.  I also added a little more Priceless Peacock glitter to the center of the arrow.  Once my sentiment was complete, I cut the words into three sections and added a some Poppy Red ink to the edges.  Sequins from the Nuvo Golden Years Confetti pack were added for a bit more sparkle.

Kindness Is Always Beautiful

Products:
Glitter: Bronze Mica (MF05); Butterscotch (GM2051)
Embossing Powder: Clear Detail (EP280); Cerulean Star (EP433)
Zig Clean Color Real Brush watercolor markers
colored pencils

This is one of the new March Releases from Sparkle N Sprinkle called Bearded Iris.  Using the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, I stamped both the image and the sentiment onto watercolor paper with a Nuvo Hybrid Ink Pad (Safari Green).  I immediately added Clear Detail embossing powder to the sentiment and heat set it.

The image was watercolored using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers.  Colored pencils were used to add some highlights after the piece was dry.  Butterscotch microfine glitter was also added to the center of the throat on the iris.

Bronze Mica Flakes were randomly added to the watercolor paper and were adhered using the Nuvo Smooth Precision glue pen.

A Tonic Studios die (Sweeping Pampas die set) was used to die cut my embellishments.  The two dies in this set are large!  I used one of them and cut it into two pieces for this project.  Butterscotch microfine glitter was added to the die cut using the glueless glitter technique.  I use the Tangerine die cutting machine for all my die cutting.  I've tried most of the die cutting machines on the market and I like the Tangerine the best, by far!

I wanted a non-traditional card base for this card, so I cut the cardstock at an angle and then applied VersaMark over the entire surface.  Cerulean Star embossing powder was added and then heat set.  The focal image and the embellished die cuts were adhered on top of embossed card base using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive.  I've found this is one of the best glues to use when adhering to glitter or embossing powder.

Be sure to leave a comment here and on my post on the SNS Blog for your chance to win a $20 gift certificate to Sparkle N Sprinkle this month.  The more comments you leave for the designers, the better your chances of winning. :-)

Be Yourself

Today I'm showcasing one of the new March Release stamp sets called Amazing You - Paisley Elephant from Sparkle N Sprinkle.

SNS is starting something new this month, beginning today.  Instead of a traditional blog hop, the designers will begin showcasing the new sets on the 5th of each month and a winner of a $20 gift certificate to SNS will be chosen at the end of each month.  The winner will be chosen from comments left on both the SNS Blog and a Mystery Designer's blog.

Although this isn't my normal style, it was fun creating this mixed media card.  I started out by applying various Distress Oxides to white cardstock and then spritzing it with water.  After this dried, I used my Tim Holtz Stamp Platform and a Nuvo Hybrid Ink Pad (Black Shadow) to stamp my image onto my colored background.  Immediately after stamping the image, I covered it with Clear Detail embossing powder and heat set it.

The smallest die from the Swirling Frame die set was used for the sentiment.  I used the same process (Distress Oxides, Stamp Platform, Nuvo Hybrid Ink, Clear Detail) as above to create this tag.  This is pop dotted on top of the card base for a bit of dimension.

After die cutting the next layer using the Sizzix die (Damask), I set it aside to work on the card base.  The card base was die cut using the largest die from the Tonic Studios die set (Swirling Frame) and was die cut from a Super Adhesive Sheet.

After removing the protective sheet, I adhered the mat and my focal image to the adhesive sheet.  I couldn't decide whether I wanted to use glitter or gilding flakes, so I experimented and used both. 😀  I began by randomly adding the Nuvo Gilding Flakes (Radiant Gold) to certain areas and then I covered the rest of the exposed area with Collegiate Garnet glitter.  When I was removing the excess, the gilding flakes co-mingled with the glitter and I thought they looked pretty good together.  I saved this combo in a separate container and will use it in a future project.  (On a side note, if you decide to do this too, remember that the flakes are much lighter than the glitter so you will need to stir it up before using it to get an even distribution of glitter and gilding flakes.)

The focal point wasn't as prominent as I would like after completing the card base so I created a frame around the elephant using 1/8" Tear-ific Tape.  Once the adhesive was exposed, I covered it with Black Diamond microfine glitter.  This was the extra pop that it needed.

I have to say that the photos don't quite do this card justice.  The dark jewel tones of the Collegiate Garnet glitter and the bright pops of gold from the Gilding Flakes are much more vibrant in person.

Thanks for taking a look today and be sure to leave a comment both here and on my post on the SNS Blog for a chance to go shopping at Sparkle N Sprinkle.  No one knows who the Mystery Designer is this month (and it might just be me).  There will be new projects on the SNS Blog every day for your inspiration and for increasing your chances of winning.  Good luck!

Butterflies and Hydrangeas

This is my second post of the day and I'd like to share with you a card created using one of the new stamp sets recently released from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  The set is Whispers of Comfort-Hydrangea and it also comes with some beautiful sentiments.

I started out by coloring the image with Copic markers and added Pan Pastels for the sky. A charcoal stick was used to add more depth to the shadows.  Once the image was colored,  Periwinkle glitter was added to the blue hydrangea petals and Bubblegum glitter was added to the pink hydrangea petals.

The butterfly was transformed into a sparkling beauty by adding glue to each area with a Sakura glue pen.  The yellow areas were covered with Sunny Daze glitter, the orange areas are accented with Creamsicle glitter, and the body of the butterfly was covered with Blue Raven glitter.

Once the image was complete, I fussy cut around the edge and adhered it to my card base.

The card base was created by die cutting white cardstock with a Sue Wilson die (Backgrounds-Swirly Vine).  I also cut a solid square from white cardstock so that I could add glitter underneath the cut outs.  I used 1" Tear-ific tape to cover the outer edge of this solid square and adhered the die cut piece on top.  Next, I added Cobalt Blue glitter to the remaining exposed adhesive areas.

I decided the white was too bright after laying the focal image on top.  Copics to the rescue.  I grabbed a light yellow (Y00) and colored the swirly vines.  Once this was completed, I used dimensional tape to pop dot the focal image.

Products Used:
GlitterPeriwinkle (G1060); Bubblegum (G1088); Sunny Daze (G1038); Creamsicle (G1140); Blue Raven (G1024); Cobalt Blue (GM2015)

Bonnet Birdie

Today's mixed media card features the newly released Bonnet Birdie stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I was privileged to be the colorist for the digital version of this image.  This sweet little bird was colored with Copic markers and the hat was stamped twice so I could layer it on top of the original hat for more dimension and to give a bit more shadow to her eyes. This also allowed me to add dimensional tape to the ribbon streamer coming off her hat.

The beak and claws were covered with Brushable Glue and then Mimosa Sparkle N Soft was added to the claws and Autumn Sparkle to her beak. Fire Engine Red glitter accents the dots on the ribbon on the hat and Nuvo Crystal Drops (Sugared Almond) accents the flower centers.

The image was then die cut using the Tonic Studios Mixed Edge Rectangle layering set and adhered to a die cut by Jeanine's Art (Garden Classics - Lace Frame Side Oval).  I cut this frame from white cardstock and then applied three different colors of Nuvo Embellishment Mousse (Indian Gold, Cosmic Brown, and Aquamarine) with a stipple brush.  The flower centers on this die cut were accented with Nuvo Crystal Drops (Sweet Lilac and Sugared Almond).
I wanted a mat for this die cut, so I traced around the die onto a piece of purple cardstock and then fussy cut it out.  I added Sparkle embossing powder to the mat and heat set it.  The patterned paper behind the mat was accented with more Sweet Lilac Crystal Drops.
The card base was dry embossed using a Sue Wilson embossing folder (Rambling Designs) and the raised areas were accented with more Cosmic Brown Nuvo Embellishment Mousse.

Embossing Powder: Clear Detail (EP280)
Dies: Lil’Inker Designs (Quilted Stitched Pattern die)
Embossing Folder: Tonic Studios Layered Leaves
VersaFine
Nuvo Crystal Drops (Crushed Grape)
Nuvo Gilding Flakes (Radiant Gold)
¼” Tear-ific Tape
Nuvo Glue Pen (Medium)
Tim Holtz Stamp Platform
Tangerine die cutting machine

Zig Clean Brush water markers

For this card, I stamped the Pretty Blooms image with Versafine ink onto watercolor paper.  I used the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform so that I could get good coverage and then I heat set it with Clear Detail embossing powder.

Next I watercolored the image and background using Zig Clean Brush watercolor markers.  I added Butterscotch microfine glitter to the flower petals and Nuvo Crystal Drops (Crushed Grape) to the flower centers.  The image was then fussy cut out.

The mat behind the focal image was stamped using VersaFine and heat set with Clear Detail embossing powder.  Then I ran it through my Tangerine using a Lil' Inkers die (Quilted Stitched Pattern die).  I tied a ribbon around this mat and adhered my focal image.

For the card base, I ran the Medium tip Nuvo Glue Pen around the edges, let it get tacky, and then added Radiant Gold Nuvo Gilding Flakes.  The next step was to run this through my Tangerine, this time using a Tonic Studios embossing folder (Layered Leaves).  I love how the dry embossed gilding flakes look.

Your next stop on the SNS Blog Hop is Shona and I know you'll love what she's created for the hop!  Don't forget to leave each of us a comment for your chance to win a $20 gift certificate to go shopping at Sparkle N Sprinkle.

Cherished Moments-Bride

Today's card features the new Cherished Moments-Bride stamp set from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I used the digi version and printed it twice so I could fussy cut the roses in her hair.  I die cut the entire image using a Spellbinders (Opulent Ovals) die and then colored the image with Copic markers.

VersaMark was applied to all of the roses and then heat set with Sparkle embossing powder.  I added Brushable Glue to the veil and covered it with Bridal glitter.  I let this dry thoroughly before adding dimensional tape to the roses and adhering to her hair.

The background was die cut using a Tonic Studios layering die (Swirling Frame Layering die set).  Then I dry embossed one of the dies on the paper instead of having it die cut through the paper.  Nuvo Embellishment Mousse (Lilac Lavender) was applied using one of the Marshmallows from the three-pack.

Pale Periwinkle Nuvo Jewel Drops were added to the necklace and on the Opulent Ovals frame.

Hello Foxy

Products used:
Hello Foxy rubber stamp set
Gecko microfine glitter
Clear Detail embossing powder
Crafter's Companion embossing folder (Leaf Vein)
Tonic Studios die (Ribbon and Bows Layering die set)
Lawn Fawn die (Magic Slider die set)
Nuvo Embellishment Mousse (Cornflower Blue; Spring Green)
Nuvo Hybrid Ink (Safari Green)
VersaMark
Super Adhesive Sheet
Marshmallows 3
Tim Holtz Stamp Platform
Tangerine Die Cutting Machine

This mixed media card using Hello Foxy from Sparkle N Sprinkle was really fun to make.  I started out by stamping my images using the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform, coloring them with Copic markers, and fussy cutting each image out.  I really wanted to bring out the reds in their coats and add a bit of texture as well.  So I added VersaMark and heat set each image with Clear Detail embossing powder.

For the background, I die cut white cardstock using the Tonic Studios Ribbon and Bows layering die set.  After die cutting the cardstock, I ran it through my Tangerine die cutting machine (💟💟💟 this machine!!!) with a Crafter's Companion embossing folder (Leaf Vein) and added color to the raised portions with Nuvo Embellishment Mousse (Cornflower Blue and Spring Green) using a Marshmallow sponge.

The next step was to die cut a piece of Super Adhesive Sheet using the same die as before but with out the cut-out insert.  I then adhered the dry embossed/moussed die cut on top of the Super Adhesive Sheet and covered the remaining adhesive with Gecko microfine glitter.

For the card base, I used a little trick as there wasn't a larger size die.  I die cut the green cardstock, cut it in half, and then adhered the pieces on either end to give the illusion of a complete mat.

The sentiment was stamped onto a negative piece from the Lawn Fawn Magic Color Slider die set.  I used the Safari Green Nuvo Hybrid Ink Pad to stamp my sentiment.  The ink stays "wet" long enough to emboss it, so I added Clear Detail embossing powder on top and heat set it.  I also inked up the edge of the heart with some Cornflower Blue Nuvo Embellishment Mousse.

I think this set is so versatile. This card would be a great masculine valentine using non-traditional colors.  It would also be great for an anniversary or thank you card.

Now for a bit about my project:

I started out by coloring Cara and Mouse Friend with Copic markers and die cutting using an old Spellbinders scalloped oval die.  Next I die cut a couple different Tonic Studios layering die sets. The Layered Rivoli layering die set was used to die cut the white cardstock and the blue patterned paper was die cut using the Decorative Rivoli layering die set.

I added Butterscotch microfine glitter to the yellow flowers on the image and to outline the decorative areas on the die cuts.  Ocean Breeze, Pink Fizz,  and Black Diamonds microfine glitters were also used to highlight the various flowers on the image.  Bubble Gum glitter accents the tiny mouse's cheeks and the inside of his ears.

The sentiment is part of the Roses In My Heart set and I used the Tim Holtz Stamping Platform to stamp this onto one of the smaller dies from the Tonic Studios die.  I stamped it several times with Memento ink (Summer Sky) in order to get it darker (I didn't have a reinker for this ink pad, so this was the best solution 😏).  I left the stamp in place, cleaned it off, and then added VersaMark and stamped it one last time.  Then I heat set the sentiment using Clear Detail embossing powder.  Butterscotch microfine glitter also accents the decorative areas on the die cut.

Your next stop on the blog hop is Chris and I know she has something fun for you too.  Be sure to leave a comment on each of the Designers' blogs for your chance to win a $20 Gift Certificate to the SNS store!

Happy Hopping,
