Just Christmas Cards Happy Mail

I opened my mailbox today and found a complimentary copy of the Just Christmas Cards and Decorations!, Vol 3 magazine.  The accompanying letter told me the above project was featured in this edition.  It's located on page 96, in the "All That Glitters" section.

SO excited to be published again!

This is how I made it:

I used the Holiday Bird rubber stamp from Sparkle N Sprinkle and colored him with Copic markers.  Blue Jewel glitter has been added to the bow and Silver Detail embossing powder was heat set onto the ornament cap and stripe.  Lavender Iris glitter was added to the star for more sparkle.  He is also pop dotted above the background.

To create the background, I started with a piece of Sticker Paper, covered it with Christmas Cheer glitter, and then cut it into three panels.  This background is really shimmery and sparkly in person. 

The Die-Versions Sweet Wordlet, Tis the Season, sentiment was die cut from a piece of cardstock that I had applied a piece of 1/2" Tear-ific Tape to and covered with Blue Jewel glitter.  This was then glued to a strip of white ribbon.  

Rays of Sunshine {published - Rubber Stamp Madness}

Published in Rubber Stamp Madness magazine, Spring 2016 edition. 

I am beyond thrilled to have a couple of cards published in this edition.  This one includes two full pages (plus a little more on a third page) of step by step instructions and photos (pages 13 - 15)!

Using the "painting with glitter" technique (also known as inlaid glitter technique or the kiss cut technique) onto a piece of Sparkle N Sprinkle Super Adhesive Sheet die cut from the Ray of Sunshine cutting plate by Taylored Expressions,  I added the following SNS glitters to create my sun: Cherry Lemonade, Lemonade,  Waterfall, and Rapture Blue.  The glitters were sprinkled onto the exposed adhesive and burnished into the adhesive starting with the lighter colors and finishing with the darker shades.

The Garden Silhouette rubber stamp from Sparkle N Sprinkle was stamped onto a piece of Embossable Clear Acetate with VersaMark and then heat set using Midnight Madness embossing powder.  I fussy cut around the image and adhered it in front of the rays of sun.  Although it's hard to tell in the photo, the silhouette is very sparkly as there is glitter in the embossing powder.

Miss You {published - Rubber Stamp Madness}

Published in the Rubber Stamp Madness magazine, Spring 2016 edition

I'm so excited to say this was my second card to be published in the Spring 2016 edition!  It's located in the Black & White plus One section.

Steps:

1. Cut piece of white cardstock 2.75" x 5".
2. Cut 4 strips of patterned paper 1.5" x 3.75".  Then cut on the diagonal, point to point.
3. Starting at the vertical center of the white cardstock, place the patterned paper until all the white areas are covered.  Make sure there are no gaps between each of the pieces of patterned paper.  (You may need to move the triangles up or down to get the cardstock covered.)  The patterned paper will go over the edges.
4. Adhere patterned paper onto the cardstock, turn cardstock over to the back and cut off the excess paper from the edges.
5. Stamp the sun image from Unity Stamps onto white cardstock, color with Copic markers, and fussy cut out.
6. Die cut a piece of black cardstock using the Large Octagons dies from Spellbinders.  Cut the octagon in half.
7. Adhere the sun to the black octagon, aligning the bottom of the stamped image with the bottom of the die cut.
8. Mat layered black and yellow cardstock; adhere to white card base toward the top, leaving a space for the sentiment.
9. Adhere strip of black ribbon to bottom portion of the white card base.
10. Die cut the Miss You sentiment (a Die-Versions Sweet Wordlets die) from yellow cardstock and add a touch of glitter to the letters with a Spica glitter pen.
10. Adhere to the ribbon.

Inside:

1. Using the Spellbinders Large Octagons dies, die cut two octagons from the yellow cardstock, one octagon from white cardstock, and one octagon from patterned paper.  Layer on top of each other.
2. Stamp the sentiment, a rubber stamp from Unity Stamps, onto the center of the white cardstock with Distress Ink (Black Soot).
3. Immediately cover with Ranger Clear embossing powder and heat set.
4. Adhere on the inside of the card.
5. Die cut the Little Open Scallop Strip (by My Favorite Things) from patterned paper and adhere to the top of the inside of your card.

Surprise Happy Mail

I've been Published! (again - but it NEVER gets old :-).)  Last night as I opened my mail, I received a magazine that I wasn't expecting. The letter inside said that I was receiving a complimentary copy as my work had been featured in the Just Cards! - Just Christmas Cards & Decorations Vol 2 magazine.  How cool is that!

You can read about how I created the Delicate Tree card on my post here.  It uses a Double Flocking technique and I have step by step photos showing you how to create this technique too.  All the dies are from Die-Versions and all the flocking is from Sparkle N Sprinkle.

Glittered Garden Silhouette

Yay!  I've been published (again).  I have to confess that I still get so excited when I see a card I made and my name printed in a magazine.  This card was published in a two page spread, including a tutorial on how it was made, in the Spring 2015 CardMaker magazine that was just released.

I started out by "painting with glitter" onto a piece of Sparkle N Sprinkle Super Adhesive Sheet die cut from the Ray of Sunshine cutting plate by Taylored Expressions.  The glitters used to create my sun were SNS's Cherry Lemonade, Lemonade,  Waterfall, and Rapture Blue.  The glitters were sprinkled onto the exposed adhesive and burnished into the adhesive starting with the lighter colors and progressing to the darker shades.

The Garden Silhouette rubber stamp was stamped onto a piece of SNS Embossable Clear Acetate with VersaMark and then heat set using Midnight Madness embossing powder.  I fussy cut around the image and adhered it in front of the rays of sun.  The edges of the mat behind the focal point were heat embossed with more Midnight Madness embossing powder for even more sparkle.


The ribbon is a strip of seam binding ribbon that I stained with Distress Stain (Squeezed Lemonade) and then I stamped my sentiment directly onto the ribbon with Staz-On ink.   I added a few flat backed pearls as a finishing touch.

Delicate Tree

Today I'm using the new Delicate Tree die from Die-Versions, plus eight more dies from Die-Versions.  These include the "star", which is part of the new Holiday Tag die, and the following Sweet Wordlets: the new Tis the Season and Deck the Halls, plus Noel, Believe, Happy, Holidays, and Merry Christmas.

I've also got a quick tutorial on how to do the Double Flocking technique.  It's basically the same as the double glitter technique, but using flock instead.  I have to say it does feel so soft and it's quite sparkly with the added glitter that's in the flock.

Start out by adhering a piece of Super Adhesive Sheet to white cardstock and die cut the tree.  Depending on how thick the cardstock is, the die should hopefully only cut through the top protective sheet.  If it does cut all the way through, that's ok, just add some tape to the back so that all the pieces remain in place.  Begin by removing the protective sheet from the inner portion of the die (as shown on the left).




Next, cover the exposed adhesive with Glistening Emeralds Sparkle N Soft flocking from Sprinkle N Sparkle.  Burnish the flock in well with your fingertip.

Now take the remaining protective sheet off.  Cover the exposed adhesive with Irish Sparkle Sparkle N Soft and burnish well with your fingertip.  The end results should look like the photo below.  Now for the rest of the card.

After the Christmas tree was all flocked, I took a piece of red cardstock, applied VersaMark all over it, and heat set it with Clear embossing powder.  It transformed the dull red to something shiny and bright.  Next I die cut all the Sweet Wordlets and placed them on the tree.

The star/snowflake is actually one of the negative pieces formed when die cutting the Holiday Tag.  I applied VersaMark to the snowflake, covered it with Halo embossing powder from Sparkle N Sprinkle and heat set it.  The patterned papers have been in my stash for a long time.

Published: Rubber Stamp Madness

I'm so excited to have a card published in the Spring 2014 edition of Rubber Stamp Madness, the original stamping magazine.   It's located on pages 23 and 24 and is titled "Old School and Cool".

Here's how I made it.  The background is Tim Holtz's Marbled Stain technique and was created using Distress Stains (Picket Fence, Barn Door, Rusty Hinge, Mustard Seed) and Perfect Pearl Mist (Perfect Pearl).

I stamped the Hero Arts image twice, once directly onto the newly created background and once onto a vintage book page so I could fussy cut out the "typewriter paper".  I heat embossed the sentiment with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  Then I cut a slit in the typewriter image where the paper would come through and slid the vintage book paper through.  The idea of using buttons and twine as spools of ribbon came to me during a creative burst :-).

I also embellished the inside a bit.  A page from a vintage book was used to frame the space for a message.  The message area was created using the Cherish punch from Martha Stewart.  A bit more twine carries the old fashioned theme from the front to the inside.

I have to add that I was just as excited seeing the label on the magazine.  It said "Artist-Anne Temple".  How cool is that!

Botanical Molten Pearls

I've discovered another technique I haven't tried - Molten Pearls.  (You can see a video of the technique here, in the SNS Tips and Techniques section.)    And what makes it even better is that it's published in the Creative Color for Card Making 2013 edition of CardMaker magazine!  (Squealing with delight! You can see it for youself on page 100.)   I've done a step by step photo tutorial as well.

 

To create this card, I used the Bamboo Floral Vase stamp from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  You can also get it in the Asain Leaf Robe stamp set.

First you need to decide what shape you want the base to be.  I used a Lifestyles Crafts nesting die set that came as part of a package for my shape, inked it up with VersaMark, and covered it with Copper embossing powder.  It may take two or three times to get the desired effect your looking for.  It should be shiny and smooth.

Once you're happy with it, ink up your image with Versamark and stamp it directly onto the embossed shape.  Cover it with a different color embossing powder (I used Forest Green), and heat emboss.  The new layer melts into the base layer and looks so cool.

The photo on the right is what it looks like when you're finished.

To complete the card, I matted it onto black cardstock using the next size up nesting die and used the third size up to cut a piece of vintage book page for my larger mat (I just turned it on it's side).  The seam binding ribbon was colored with Dylusions Ink Sprays and I added a vintage button threaded with paper floss on top.
If you haven't tried this technique yet, you really should.  I couldn't stop with just one card.

Fisherman's Delight

I'm so excited to say that my card using Pattie's Creations Fisherman's Delight was selected to be published in the Designed to Color June/July 2012 edition.  This is a new magazine that is both in print (by subscription) and online.  One of the conditions of being published is that I couldn't share my project until 30 days after publication.  So I'm sharing it with you now.

The image is colored with Copic markers and fussy cut out so I could pop dot the fish for extra dimension.  I also applied Shimmerz (Angel Wings) paint to the fish for a more realistic look.   Lifestyle Crafts Nesting Labels 7 were used for my mats and distressed with Distress Ink (Brushed Corduroy).  The sentiment is a rubber stamp by Unity Stamps that has been stamped on a Sizzix Movers and Shapers (Mini Ticket set) die cut.  The wires one each side of the image are actually Christmas ornament hooks that I picked up after Christmas because I thought they would look cool on a card.  Added a bit of ribbon, and a perfect card for any fisherman.  One more quick note - when I showed the card to my husband, he said "hey, those are my boots!"  Yep, I got the color idea from a pair of rubber boots he has.  Inspiration is everywhere.

Patriotic Pete

Dude Time Doodles is being featured in Papers and Pixels e-zine, which was released yesterday (6/15).  I'm so happy to say that my tag was one of the cards published in the article.   This cutie is being offered as a freebie for 30 days to subscribers of the e-zine.  Papers and Pixels is very reasonable (only $1.50 per issue) and is loaded with lots of great stuff.  Go check it out for yourself and see.  Once you subscribe to the magazine, you will see the code used to acquire this image through the DTD store.

The tag was created using the Sizzix tag die and DSE digital paper.  First, I distressed the edges of the tag with Distress Inks (Gathered Twigs, Brushed Corduroy).  I also printed the image multiple times so I could add quite a bit of dimension.  He's pop dotted off the tag base, his body is pop dotted away from the flag, and his hat is pop dotted off his head (for a total of three layers).

My star "buttons" were created with a Creative Memories punch that I added holes to the center and threaded paper floss through each one.  They are colored with Copics, as is the twill ribbon at the bottom.  The twill ribbon at the top of the tag was colored with Distress Stains (Antique Linen) and then a Copic on top of that, cut in half, and threaded through the opening.  I also pulled a few of the threads for a more distressed look as well.

a Rose is a Rose

This is an acetate card made with Stampendous' rose stamp that I've had for quite awhile.  I cut out the mats (which are adhered on the inside of the card) with Magic Matter disk set.  These were originally designed for making mats around cut photos, but I use them on fussy cut images all the time.  The final layer is actually a piece of fabric with green leaves.

I added a rub-on sentiment and a bow to complete this CAS card.

This card was published in Scrapbook News and Review e-zine in the July, 2011issue.

Two Projects Published!

YEA!  I'm so thrilled to have two more projects published at Scrapbook News and Review magazine.  The first one is an acrylic card titled "Rose" and the second is "Let's Go to the Beach". As part of the conditions of being published, they can't appear on my blog for thirty days.  So, you'll have to wait a little while to see them here; or you can head on over to SNR and subscribe to the magazine.  This latest edition came out last night.

Let's Go to the Beach

This week's challenge at Stamping with the Dragon is Summer Fun and what can be better than going to the beach?  The twist this week is to use this sketch:

As you can see, I just flipped it.  The sketch is from Maya and you can find this sketch here.  I used the Summer Fun image from Stamping Dragon Designs and tweaked it just a little.  Instead of a circle, I decided I wanted an oval - that's the beauty of digital stamps.  And for another change - I didn't use Copics; I used chalks and a couple Zig markers to color this image in.  Chalks are great to use because you can erase your mistakes (it's hard staying in the lines when you're using a little round ball and tweezers :-)  ).  I also used a Martha Stewart punch that I found at my local craft store called Cherish on my matting an strip of paper and some Glossy Accents on the beach ball.  The sentiment is a sticker from Creative Memories that I've had for quite a while.
