Tulips for Mom

card closed (front)
pop up card opened (inside)

Mother's Day is a little over a week away.  And Pattie's Creations has the perfect challenge for you: a Mother's Day card.

For this challenge, I decided to make a pop up card using Pattie's Tulip in aVase image from her Esty store.  I printed the image twice as I also wanted to add dimension to a few of the tulip heads.  The pop up base is a die from Sizzix that I adhered the Copic marker colored image.  I added a rub-on or two, and the inside was complete.

Next I had to decide how to decorate the front panel.  After playing around a bit, I decided to used a VLVS rubber stamp for my sentiment.  I stamped this in the center of a Spellbinder's Lacey Oval die cut (#4) and wove twine around the outside of the die cut as well as the first layer of the front.  I must confess that this color twine was a happy accident.  I had sprayed the quilled strips of paper with Smooch Spritz (Electric Blue) and some of it had gotten on my fingers.  I was moving one of the twine bobbins out of the way and some of the ink got on parts of the twine.  Instead of throwing it away, I decided that it was worth a try to see if I could dye it like you can ribbon.  I retrieved a plastic bag, put the cantaloupe striped twine in the bag and spritzed more Smooch Spritz inside the bag and just swooshed  it around.  Needless to say, I was very happy with the results.  Parts of the twine didn't get dyed, but other parts became different colors.

I pop dotted the sentiment and completed the card with my quilled pieces.  Now it's your turn to show us your Mother's Day creation at Pattie's Creations Challenge Blog.  You'll have two weeks, and remember, you must use an image (either digi or rubber) for our challenges.

I'm entering this in the following challenges: Shopping Our Stash (Mothers' Day or girly); Sweet Stamps (for mom); Whoopsi Daisy (flowers); Creative Inspirations paints (flowers).

A tisket, a tasket, a little yellow basket

I needed an Easter Basket to place a few Easter goodies in, so I decided to make one.  I found this great tutorial on how to weave your own here.  (One extra bit of info: you'll need 2 sheets of 12" x 12" of cardstock to complete the basket as I did.)  Each of the four sides are decorated using a variety of dies (from Cheery Lynn Designs, MFT, Memory Box, Spellbinders, Sizzix), rubber stamps (Unity, Cowtown, VLVS), Copic markers, Distress Ink, Viva Decor Pearl Pen, and Creative Inspiration paints.

The first panel scene was created by combining Cheery Lynn Designs (Victorian Picket Fence, Mini Flourish One),  Memory Box (Butterfly Delights, Twiggy Tree, Leafy Canopy), MFT (Fresh Cut Grass), Sizzix (Branch, Cherry Blossom) dies.  All the flowers are painted with Creative Inspiration paints (Winter Frost) so they are very shimmery and the centers were added with a Pearl Pen.

The opposite side is decorated with rubber stamp (bunny - Cowtown Stamps; bees - Unity Stamps) images, which are colored with Copic markers and the bees wings were painted with Creative Inspirations paints (Pink Highlights, Sunshine).  In addition Pink Highlights was used on the bunny's ear, nose, and eye lid.

The other two sides of this woven basket are decorated with butterflies cut out with Cheery Lynn Designs (Exotic Butterflies Small) and highlighted with Creative Inspiration paints as well.  The little butterflies are from Memory Box (Butterfly Delights).

The sentiment is from VLVS and was cut out with Spellbinders (Standard Tags).

I'm entering my basket in the following challenges: Cheery Lynn Designs (basket); Great Impressions (flowers); Creative Inspiration paints (Easter); Oozak (anything goes).

Argus

Who's ready for the Digi Makeover Challenge #2 from Paper Makeup Stamps?  This week's challenge is a sketch and I chose Argus with Teddy (he will be listed in the digi section soon).  He's such a cutie and has so many possibilities.  The sentiment is a rubber stamp from VLVS that I've had for quite a while and is cut with Spellbinders Labels Sixteen (#2).  Every time I read this sentiment, it sounds like Al Pacino in Scarface :-) .  Argus is colored with Copic markers and his dots are Stickles (purple) as are my accents on the left.  The papers are all from my stash.

Here's the sketch and as you can (hopefully) tell, I just flipped it.  You have one week to upload your creation using this sketch to the Paper Makeup Stamps blog.  Don't forget to check out the other great creations from the digi design team as well.

The Rules

Cow poke

For this multi layered card, I started off with a linen look base cardstock in a mahogany color, to coordinate with the Aged Mahogany Distress ink  that I used to stamp my image.  The next layer was made using dye reinkers and marbles to create my background.  This is an easy, but somewhat loud, technique.  Just place a few drops of a dye reinker (colors of your choice) into a plastic container that has a lid.  (The Stampin' Up containers work really well for this.)  Next, adhere a piece of cardstock onto the top of the container with repositionable tape.  Drop in several marbles and shake to your heart's content.  You can always add more drops of reinker if you want more color.  When you're satisfied, take off the cardstock and you have just created a wonderful one-of-a- kind background.  Alcohol inks and glossy cardstock would look great too.  Felt covered brads were placed in the four corners.

The next layer is actually a piece of very thin wood that came in one of my husband's cigar boxes.  I'm always looking at things most people just toss in the trash to see if I can re-purpose it in one of my projects.  This piece of wood veneer was thin enough to cut with scissors.  There are now several internet companies that sell real wood veneer paper.  From what I understand, they are thin enough to use in your die cutting machines.  I haven't tried them yet, but they sound fun to use.

The final two layers were cut out using the Spellbinders Curved Rectangles dies.  First is a piece of handmade fiber paper that I had laying around and the top layer is a portion of an image from Viva Las Vegas Stamps (VLVS).   If you haven't visited this site, you're in for a real treat.  They have a lot of the unusual and funky, but fun, stamps.   I inked the edges of this final lyaer with Aged Mahogany Distress ink.

Sunset

Don't you wish you were gazing into a beautiful sunset?  This was created using a sponged background and Distress inks.  The woman is from Viva Las Vegas Stamps and I used Copic markers to color her in.  The base card is dark chocolate.  Enjoy your sunset!
