Surfin' Woody

The theme this month at Sparkle N Sprinkle is Beach related stamp sets.   I used Surfin' Woody and lots of masking to create today's card.  If you are unfamiliar with the masking technique, you stamp the image in the foreground first.  Stamp it again on a scrap pice of paper and fussy cut it out.  Temporarily adhere it over the stamped image and then stamp your second layer, in this case the hammock and trees, and repeat the process if you are stamping a third image.  For this card, both the car and the trees had to be masked to create my fence border.

I used watercolor paper and all the images were stamped with VersaMark and heat embossed using Black Detail embossing powder. Everything was then colored with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers, including the water and the sky.  It's hard to see in the photo, but Sparkling Coffee Sparkle N Soft flocking was also added to the coconuts.

I created a frame for my beach scene using a couple Spellbinders Grand Square dies and white cardstock.  I used the Glueless Glitter technique, along with Clear embossing powder, to decorate the frame with Cobalt Glaze velvet glitter.  

The card front is actually a piece of recycled mail that a friend of mine received.  It was made from heavy cardstock and was a promotional piece.  She saw me eyeing it, and knowing that I love stuff like that, asked me if I would like to have it :-).  I thought it was perfect for this fun-in-the-sun scene.  I added 1/8" Tear-ific Tape around the edges and covered it with more Cobalt Glaze velvet glitter.

My sentiment, which is part of the set, was stamped onto a piece of white cardstock die cut using a Sizzix die (Tim Holtz: Labels) with Black Detail embossing powder.  Some Zig watercolor brushes were used to give it color.  Once I was happy with the color, I covered the entire piece with VersaMark and Clear embossing powder.  Before heat setting it though, I sprinkled on a little Sparkling Snow glitter so that it would sparkle. As the embossing powder melts, it adheres the glitter beautifully.

Hip Hip Hooray

One of the Sweet Spots released this month from Die-Versions is "Hip Hip Hooray".  I was in a restaurant in Franklin, TN and the first thing you see when you walk in is a sign that reads "Hip Hip Hooray - the Gang's All Here".  As soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to do with this new Sweet Spot.

This easel card used a lot of stamps (six in total) and quite a bit of masking, but it was fun to create.  I started off by cutting the sweet spot in fabric (just to see if it would work.  I didn't have any problems but you might if there were more intricate details.)  Then I scribbled a Spica glitter pen on the letters for a bit of bling.  Next I started stamping and masking to create my scene.  All of the images were stamped with Memento Black Tuxedo and colored with Koh-I-Nor woodless pencils for a more vintage feel.

The first stamp with the three ladies sitting in front and the man in the back to the right are by River City Rubber Works.  The man and woman image in the back on the left is from I Brake for Stamps and the trees/shrubs in the very back are by Beeswax Stamps.  The large watermarked sentiment is an older background stamp by Hero Arts and the "Happy Birthday you old bird" is retired stamp from Prickley Pear.  The rest of the sentiment was die cut from the Die-Versions Mister Micro font.

At the Beach

It's time for a new blog hop from Sparkle N Sprinkle and this month our theme is At the Beach.  The blog hop goes from May 9 - May 10.  So you have plenty of time to check out all the wonderful creations.
To create my tropical island, I've used a couple stamps from both the Surfin' Woody set (Beach Fence and Palm Hammock) and the Serena Mermaid set.  I started out by stamping the Palm Hammock image and then masking it so I could design the sponged background.  Distress Inks were used for the backdrop.  In addition, I added Mudd Puddles (Tropical Beach) to the island.  If you've not used this product before, it's something you should try because you get lots of texture when the mixture dries.  It really does look and feel like grains of sand.

I colored my image with Distress Markers and paper pieced the hammock.  The sea shells and the sentiment are from the Serena Mermaid set and I heat embossed both of these with Clear Detail embossing powder.  For specific details, you can always visit my SNS Art Gallery.

SNS May Color Challenge

It's time for the Sparkle N Sprinkle Creative Challenge and this month we have a color challenge for you.

I've used the Surfin' Woody set from Sparkle N Sprinkle.  I stamped the Woody Convertible first and then masked it so I could stamp the Beach Fence.  The image is colored with Copic markers and I added Sprinkle N Soft Sparkling Sands to the sandy areas.  Sonic Silver velvet glitter was used for the chrome on the car.

The sentiment was embossed with Pineapple embossing powder, heat set and then used as a resist as I covered the Spellbinders tag with Distress Ink (Fired Brick).  Jute and eyelets were used to secure it.  The chevron is from MFT and is spritzed with Dylusions Ink Sprays (postbox red and melted chocolate).

Now it's your turn to use the color scheme and create something.  You don't have to use Sparkle N Sprinkle stamps, but the prize is bigger if you do.  Plus, you have the entire month of May to get your project uploaded.
