Kitty's Christmas {Scrapy Land #74}

Hey everyone, it's the third Wednesday of September and that means it's time for a new Scrapy Land Challenge!  YAY!  The theme is always Anything Goes using any brand of die that Scrapy Land sells.  There's over 55, so  you probably have a lot of those brands in your stash already. You can check them all out here.

I decided to create a Christmas card since the holidays are right around the corner and I haven't really started making my cards yet.  Believe it or not, I used the same cream cardstock for everything.  The embossing powder I used is what makes some of it look cream and some of it look more like a light vanilla.  More about that in just a minute.

I used the following dies to create this card.  Remember, you can always do a "search" to find lots of other examples as well.

Die-Versions: Merry Christmas Sweet Wordlet
Dee's Distinctively Dies: Retro Cats 2
Dee's Distinctively Dies: Christmas Tree Silhouette
Dee's Distinctively Dies: Christmas Tree Overlay 3
Dee's Distinctively Dies: Mini Stars
Dee's Distinctively Dies: Mini Tree Decorations
Elizabeth Crafts Designs: Entwined Ovals
Sue Wilson Designs: Noble dies-Double Pierced Rectangles Set B

I started out by dry embossing the background panel with my Crafters Companion embossing folder (Christmas Merriment).  I love using this for a background, but for this card I did something a little different.

I inked up the top of the embossing folder with VersaMark and then dry embossed the cream cardstock.  After running it through my machine, I covered it with Sparkle embossing powder from Sparkle N Sprinkle and heat set it.  This changed the color from a cream to a slightly darker vanilla color.  The embossed words (Merry Christmas) stayed lighter while the de-bossed area became a vanilla.

I also heat embossed the Christmas Tree Silhouette with more Sparkle embossing powder, giving the base of the tree a slightly darker color.  The Christmas Tree Overlay was then adhered on top and I added some Nuvo Crystal Drops (Red Berry).

The Entwined Oval die cut was heat embossed with Christmas Green Marbled embossing powder.  My sentiment was die cut from the cream cardstock, colored with a red Copic marker, and then heat embossed with Clear embossing powder so that it would be shiny, like the Crystal Drop ornaments.

Waterscape glitter was added to the Retro Cats' eyes for a touch of sparkle.  More Red Berry Crystal Drops was added for their collars and two of the mini tree decorations were added for a festive look.  The mini tree decorations and the mini star on top of the tree was die cut from gold cardstock.

The card base (still from the same cream colored cardstock), was dry embossed using the Sue Wilson Noble dies for added texture and a nice finished look to the front of the card.

You have until Oct 1 to join the Scrapy Land Challenge.  There are two winners (one chosen by the designers and one chosen by random.org).  Each winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to Scrapy Land, so you have two chances to win!  Be sure to check out what the rest of this very talented design team has created for you!
